Sizerville State Park sets weekend events
EMPORIUM — Events for the Fourth of July weekend are set for Sizerville State Park.
At 1 p.m. Thursday will be a program on Stars & Stripes at the Environmental Learning Center. Join the park educator for a short program on the history of Independence Day and the American flag. A make and take craft will follow the talk.
At 3 p.m. Friday will be a Red, White, & Blue Scavenger Hunt, starting at the Environmental Learning Center. Come out and explore Sizerville State Park and search for red, white, and blue colors in nature. Children should be accompanied by an adult and sturdy footwear is recommended. Feel free to bring sunscreen, bug spray, and a bottle of water.
At 8 p.m. Friday at the campground amphitheater is Film in the Forest: Hummingbirds. Did you know that a hummingbird’s wings beat approximately 70 times per second? Join the park educator for an informational session on hummingbirds that will cover topics like how fast these tiny birds can fly, what their diet consists of, and so much more. A short talk will be followed by a movie — feel free to bring snacks and a blanket.
At 3 p.m. Saturday will be a program at the campground amphitheater on awesome amphibians. Do you know all the different types of amphibians that PA has to offer? Come out to this program and find out information on frogs, salamanders, toads, and newts. A short talk will be followed by exploring the park to try and find some of these cool critters
At 8 p.m. Saturday at the amphitheater will be the program What’s the Score? What is the Boone & Crockett Club? Who founded it? Why is antler scoring important to conservation? All these questions and more will be addressed at this program. A short talk will be followed by a live demonstration of scoring an elk antler, plus the chance for you to try as well.
