Elk County Council on the Arts to debut ‘Shrek the Musical Jr.’ on Friday
ST. MARYS — The Elk County Council on the Arts Summer Theater Camp production of “Shrek the Musical JR!” will conclude with a 7 p.m. performance at St. Marys Area High School’s Carpin Auditorium on Friday.
Organizers said the delightful musical comedy follows the adventures of Shrek, a lovable, yet prickly ogre, along with his sidekick Donkey, who set out on a quest to rescue Princess Fiona from certain doom. But along the way, Shrek discovers that the biggest challenge he faces isn’t a fire-breathing dragon or a dangerous quest, it’s learning to believe in himself and open his heart to others.
Filled with catchy songs, colorful characters and plenty of laughs, “Shrek Jr.” celebrates self-acceptance, friendship and the magic of being different. With a cast of fairytale misfits and a story that’s equal parts romance and twisted fairy tale, audiences of all ages are sure to be enchanted by this “big, bright, beautiful world.”
“Shrek the Musical JR. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).”
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. There is no admission to the show, but donations are appreciated and help support the arts in Elk County through youth programming and scholarships for Summer Theater Camp. Concessions will also be available. Visit ECCOTA.com or visit its Facebook page to learn more about theater camp registration.
