Smethport man arrested for child pornography
A Smethport man was arraigned last week on felony counts of child pornography after a predator watch group turned over evidence to police in December.
Frederick H. Raszman, 42, of 237 Marvin St., is charged with possessing images and videos of post-pubescent child pornography on his phone, a third-degree felony, and possessing images of pre-pubescent child pornography on his phone, a second-degree felony.
There were more than 240 images and 12 videos, the criminal complaint indicated.
Officer Kevin Seipp filed the charges. He stated that on May 13, 2024, he was notified by an employee of Smethport Area School District that Raszmann was seen at a movie theater with a student, and in their opinion, he was “inappropriately touching the juvenile.” The parents were contacted, and a forensic interview was conducted at the McKean County Children’s Advocacy Center. The interview was inconclusive, the complaint noted.
On Dec. 8, 2024, Seipp was called to 915 W. Water St. for a report of child pornography. When Seipp arrived, he was “met by a man who stated he was with a predator watch group who had been conversing with (Raszmann) for about 2 weeks. While having an extended conversation with the watch group, Raszmann admitted to having some ‘inappropriate images’ on his phone,” the complaint stated.
The man was Alex Rosen, who uses the name Gordon Flowers, of the Houston, Texas-based organization Predator Poachers, which conducts sting operations on adults who seek sexual activities with children. A video of Rosen confronting Raszmann on the porch of the West Water Street home is on YouTube. Seipp appears near the end of the video, and Rosen can be seen handing over paperwork and then following Seipp to the police station to give him a copy of the video as well.
Raszmann agreed to give his phone to Seipp, who applied for a search warrant for it. On the phone, the officer found 119 images and 5 videos of prepubescent children, and 122 images and 7 videos of post-pubescent children, the complaint stated.
On the video, while Rosen was speaking to Seipp, he mentioned Raszmann telling him about touching a juvenile female. Seipp asked, “Does this involve (name is edited out)? That sounds like what she told us at the CAC last year.”
Raszmann was arrested and arraigned last week before District Judge Bill Todd. He was released on $20,000 unsecured bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing July 23 before Todd.
He is represented by Warren attorney Henry Borger.
