Parslow’s solo HR keys Bradford Minors Victory
Braxton Parslow smashed a solo home run in the fourth to key Bradford over Smethport 11-1 in Minor All-Star baseball action Wednesday.
While Smethport opened scoring with a single run in the first inning, Bradford put runs on the board in all five innings to secure the win.
Gage Brinsky had two triples and Beckett Burns had two doubles to help ensure the win.
“It was a huge difference between this game and our last game. In the first game, they played with a lot of jitters. Tonight they were comfortable. They played good all-around baseball,” Bradford All-Stars Coach Steve Sherk said. “I think they caught some fire, and they’re gaining some confidence.”
Smethport’s Timmy Austin doubled in the top of the first, putting runners at second and third. A hit to center from Nolan McCormick had a run scoring for Smethport, giving them the 1-0 lead.
Brinsky’s first triple and the first double for Burns came in the bottom of the first inning. Burns brought Brinsky in for Bradford’s first run. Jack Cannon smacked a single to center to score the go-ahead run, and a third run scored on a hit from Rowan Miller before the inning came to an end.
Bradford added two runs in the second on a single from Dremonte Skaggs and an overthrow to third during Oliver Ullman’s turn at bat.
Burns had a second double in the bottom of the third, which put him in position to steal third and put another run on the board when Jack Cannon hit a strong single into the outfield.
Parslow’s home run came in the bottom of the fourth, in between two strikeouts.
“That was his first home run ever, and this was his biggest game ever. So that was awesome,” Sherk stated.
Brinsky’s second triple came in the bottom of the fifth with runners on second and third, giving him two RBIs and Bradford a 10-1 advantage. The last run of the night came on a single from Bryce Crappio, bringing the 10-run rule into effect.
Bradford returns to action Friday, playing the team who loses the DuBois/Brookville matchup.
“We have a young team, but we believe in them. We don’t think we are anywhere near the end yet,” Sherk said.
