    Dolores Wilber

SMETHPORT — Dolores “Dollie” Wilber of Smethport passed away June 22, 2025, at Lakeview Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

Born July 14, 1936, in Portville, N.Y., she was the daughter of Edith Franklin Confer and William Goldsmith, and the granddaughter of Vernal and Martha Proper, who raised her.  On Jan. 21, 1966, at First Church of God in Eldred, she married William Wilber, who passed away Sept. 23, 2011.

Dollie was a graduate of Eldred High School, class of 1954, as well as Rochester (N.Y.) Business Institute with a degree in accounting.

Before returning to Eldred in 1960, she worked for the U.S. Auditor General and the Retail Clerks, Local 345 in Rochester. In 1994, she retired after 25 years with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, retiring as a purchasing agent.

In 1978, she and her husband purchased the Valley Inn in Farmers Valley. After 17 years, they sold the Valley Inn and moved to Florida, where she returned to work as the project accountant at Fisherman’s Village in Punta Gorda. She would retire again and return to Pennsylvania for the summers, working as campground hosts at Willow Bay. In 2000, she went to work for Farm Credit of Southwest Florida in Arcadia, retiring again in 2004 and returning to Pennsylvania to be near family.

She was an active member in the Eldred and Smethport Senior centers and the Red Hats, and was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was treasurer for many years of AFSCME Local 2116. For many years she kept the scorebook for baseball and softball teams.

Surviving are her children, William (Colleen) Wilber II and Suzanne Chesebro of Smethport; bonus children, David (Debra) Wilber, Dixie (Harold) Wright of Smethport and Debra (Paul) Sample of Beaver; grandchildren, Kara (Greg) Gustin, Nathan (Shenna) Wilber, Laurie Wilber, Katie Chesebro and Emma Blaisdell; bonus grandchildren, Mary (Kyle) Okerlund, Abby (Tyler) Burdick, Kari Wilber, Shannon (Chad) Kleisath, Stacey (Heath) Confer, Emily and James Sample; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Laurie Blaisdell in 2017, son-in-law Grant Blaisdell in 2020 and sister Barbara Confer Hawley in 2011.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. July 12, 2025, at Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, with the Rev. Max Simms, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Smethport Senior Center.

Arrangements are under direction of Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc. Online condolences may be made at hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.
