City council approves two grants to Hennard
A Bradford business owner has been awarded two T-Mobile Hometown Grants for work on two Congress Street businesses.
At Tuesday’s meeting of Bradford City Council, Todd Hennard was awarded a $5,000 grant for 17 Congress St., and a second $5,000 grant for 19 Congress St. The grants are for work at A Slice of the 80’s and the Slice of the 80’s Arcade.
For the arcade, Hennard’s project is to buy two new games and to do repairs on existing arcade games, for a total project cost of $10,404.99. For the pizza shop, he plans to remove the old flooring and install new, for a project cost of $12,000.
Payment was approved for $2,283.35 to Bradford Chrysler Dodge Jeep for inspection and repair to the Department of Property Maintenance and Inspections Jeep.
A certificate of appropriateness was approved for Bright Alternatives at 3 Mechanic St. to paint a mural on the right side of the building. “The mural will be 48 feet long by 16 feet high. The paint colors will be as follows: The sun and rays in yellow, flowers will be purple, green, etc., and accented with blue butterflies. Renovation of the parking lot to resurface and replace it with asphalt.”
The matter was approved by the Historical Architectural Review Board with the stipulation that any future addition (butterflies, flowers, etc.) must submit a new HARB application and go before the board for approval.
Council approved the purchase of items for the fire department using grant funds from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. A total of $21,420 was for fire hose, while $6,045 was for NFPA flow test kits.
Two insurance policies were renewed for the city at the meeting as well.
Property and casualty insurance with Selective was renewed for $236,626 from July 2025 to July 2026. The second was for cyber insurance with State National Insurance at $5,130.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the council will be at 6 p.m. July 8.
