New York man charged with assaulting, threatening state trooper
A Cattaraugus, N.Y., man is in McKean County Jail for charges including aggravated assault on a police officer for an incident last week on Mead Run Road.
Lance Lavallee, 43, of 57 South St., is charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; terroristic threats, a first-degree misdemeanor; two counts of resisting law enforcement and one count of simple assault, all second-degree misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, on June 19, Cpl. Roger McCloskey at the Ridgway state police barracks was contacted to respond to the Lewis Run barracks, as a corporal there had been involved in an altercation with and was assaulted by Lavallee at 1:12 p.m. that day at the intersection of U.S. Route 219 and Mead Run Road.
McCloskey arrived at the Lewis Run barracks, told Lavallee who he was and noted an obvious eye injury to the defendant. He asked if Lavallee would like medical attention; he said yes, so an ambulance was summoned.
He then interviewed one of the two troopers who were on the call. At 12:30 p.m. that day, state police were dispatched to U.S. Route 219 at Mead Run Road to check on Lavallee regarding his mental well-being and his involvement in an incident the day before in Elk County.
The troopers arrived at his vehicle, and one approached on each side. Lavallee opened the door and told police to “just arrest me, let’s get this over with,” the complaint stated. The trooper said he didn’t know what Lavallee was talking about, but was checking on him relating to an incident with a tow truck driver. The driver wanted police to make sure Lavallee was OK.
Lavallee said he had a warrant in New York. He told police his girlfriend had left him at Twin Lakes Campground, and she had made it as far as Mead Run Road before she was arrested, he said because the two were “running from the warrant,” the complaint read.
The other trooper, a corporal, asked if they had fought at Twin Lakes. Lavallee said they argued about her taking the vehicle, but denied it escalated. He said he told her he was going into the woods to kill himself. When troopers asked if he still felt that way, he replied, “What do you think?”
The trooper said they would take him to the hospital to get help. After more conversation, Lavallee said he wanted to lock up his vehicle. The corporal said he would do it for him. However, Lavallee went to the vehicle and opened the door, which the corporal immediately closed. Lavallee began walking away and the corporal attempted to grab him when an altercation ensued between the two. Lavallee grabbed the corporal’s arm, caused injury to his hand and fought being placed under arrest. When the corporal was buckling Lavallee into the car, Lavallee attempted to bite him, the complaint stated.
The corporal told McCloskey Lavallee had threatened him, first saying he ought to headbutt him, and then made statements that he “was part of the King of Kings bike gang,” that he was going to have “90 bikers at my front doorstep” to inflict serious physical harm, the complaint stated.
He was arraigned on the 19th before District Judge David Engman and jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is scheduled for Central Court on Thursday.
