Dixon and Holden Among New Hidden Valley Winners
CLEARFIELD – 49 teams were in the pits at Hidden Valley Speedway Friday night, including 13 Semi Lates, seven Small Block Modifieds, four Pure Stocks, 10 Four Cylinders, two Junior Four Cylinders, two Junior ATV’s, nine ATVs and two UTV as Hesston driver George Dixon, Jr. and Tiona’s Hayden Holden picked up their first feature wins in the Semi-Late and Small Block Modifieds, respectively.
Other new winners included Zachery Lennox of Brockway in the Four Cylinders and Blake Little of Clearfield in the Junior Four Cylinders. Tim Steis of St. Mary’s was the only repeat winner and he claimed the Pure Stock win.
The ATV’s and UTV’s made a rare appearance with Derek Cameron, Punxsutawney in the ATV Modified class, Brad Condon of Madera won the ATV Stock class, while Brendan Beck, portion and Mack Adams won the Junior ATV event.
Justin Owens and Ron Laubscher brought the Semi Late feature to Sam McClellan’s green flag, with Owens shooting into the lead and Dan Gill was second and Gary Little was third when the caution waved for a spinning Laubscher. On the restart, a three wide battle going into the third turn saw George Dixon Jr. taking the lead and Owens sitting second. Little was in third and Gill faded to fourth. On the fifth lap, Little was able to get by Owens for second and he was reeling in Dixon on the smooth, dust free surface. Several laps the duo ran side-by-side, but working on lap 16, Little spun in turn two, resetting the field. On the restart, Owens was now second again and Gill third, as Dixon continued to lead. When McClellan threw the double checkered flags, it was Dixon getting the win over Owens, Gill, Dylan Fenton and Little completing the top five. Heat wins went to Dixon and Little.
Aaron Casher and Bob Alcorn brought the Small Block Modifieds to the green flag with Casher leading the first lap. On two Hayden Holden was able to maneuver around Casher and take the lead. Cashier held second until lap five, when Jimmy Holden, driving the Craig Casher #50 moved into second and set his sights on his son. The Holdens were putting on a great show, with Hayden able to hold off his dad for the victory. Shannon Casher was third, Aaron Casher held on for fourth and Trent Ogden rounded out the top five. Levi Picard won the heat.
The Pure Stock field was on the light side, with four cars showing up, as Austin Fenton and Eric Lucas on the front row, as Fenton led the opening lap with Lucas in second. Lucas was able to take the lead away from Fenton on lap two, and Tim Steis was quick to follow Lucas by Fenton. Steis was working on Lucas but brought out a caution on lap three with a flat tire. He pitted and had the two lap rule in effect and was able to tag onto the tail of the field on the same lap. Steis was then back in second and hounding Lucas for the lead again, and on lap seven, Steis was able to take advantage of a bobble by Lucas and take the lead going into the third turn. Once he had the lead, Steis held off Lucas for his second consecutive win. Lucas was second, Fenton was third and newcomer Parker Hemphill was fourth. Lucas won the heat.
The Four Cylinder feature saw Eric Luzier and Draven Reid on the front row, with third place starter Zachery Lennox taking the lead after a three-wide first lap. Lennox brought fifth place starter Zack Frantz along with him into second with Shawn Hadden came from 8th to third by lap two. William Kephart was in fourth. The top three were under a blanket, racing side-by-side and bumper to bumper most of the race, but when the checkered flags waved, it was Lennox getting his first ever HVS win over Frantz, Allen Robison who came from 10th, Hadden and Mike Phillipson who came from 9th. Heat wins went to Kephart and Frantz.
Blake Little and Jackson Shugarts battled hard in the Junior Four Cylinder class, with Little able to lead from green to checkered and take his first win of the season. Shugarts was second.
The UTV Class saw Brenden Beck lead from start to finish with Steven Shugarts finishing second.
The ATV-Modified class saw Derrick Cameron take the win over Sky Neal and it was Brad Condon winning the Stock ATV portion over his daughter Katie Abrino.
Mack Adams won the Junior ATV race of Mile Connor.
Next week is a regular show for the Semi-Lates, Small Block Modifieds, and Four Cylinders. The Pure Stocks will have a special paying $700 to win, the Junior Four Cylinders will be back along with the Thundercars and the 600 Micro’s and there will be a mechanics race for the Pure Stocks
