Other Voices: Disappointing hyperbole
Although not one to publicly voice my opinions out of a sense decorum, I am nonetheless compelled to respond to some comments reportedly made at the recent “No Kings” rally held in downtown Bradford and as reported by The Bradford Era.
Firstly the entire premise of such is more than a bit hypocritical, given that the Democratic Party last year managed to subvert the truth from Americans regarding former President Joe Biden’s health and mental acuity. To make matters worse the Democratic National Committee then coronated Kamala Harris to be the party’s nominee without a nomination process, despite being urged to do so by many party leaders.
See the royal, aristocratic irony here?
Primarily, I’d like to address the specific comments made by the Rev. Lee Beckes, who reportedly described the recent military celebration in Washington as “…a parade better suited to Tiananmen Square, Red Square or North Korea.” Such hyperbole is disappointing to hear and does nothing to engage citizens in productive, rational civil discourse.
True community leaders should be working to unite those of all political stripes, instead of stoking further division with political rhetoric having no basis in reality.
