Public can help Stuckey family after home destroyed by fire; GoFundMe for young Dagus Mines woman killed

    By Sara Furlong

Clermont Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 8:40 a.m. Sunday on Red Mill Road in Sergeant Township.

The residence, which was destroyed in the blaze, was home to Brianna and Gavin Stuckey and their three young boys, Carson, 9, Dawson, 7, and Asher, 9 months; and their family dog, Bandit. No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

The Stuckey family home in Clermont was totally destroyed by fire Sunday morning.

Additional crews were dispatched from Smethport, Norwich Township, Hamlin Township, Port Allegany and Mount Jewett, along with Kane’s aerial tower. Emporium Volunteer Fire Department, Johnsonburg Volunteer Fire Department and Mount Jewett ambulance were also on the scene, where firefighters remained for five hours.

A GoFundMe was organized by Josh and Kassie Rothermel for the Stuckey family to help rebuild after losing all of their belongings. As of Monday afternoon, the fundraiser had amassed $8,980 of its $13,000 goal on 100 donations.

“On the morning of June 22nd, tragedy struck the Stuckey family when a devastating fire completely destroyed their home,” the page reads. “This loving family of five — a mom, dad, and their three boys — lost everything.

“In a matter of moments, the Stuckeys lost not just their home, but every belonging, every comfort and every memory held within those walls. Clothing, food, baby supplies, toys, furniture and all the basic necessities are now gone.”

The Stuckeys’ friends and loved ones shared items the family could use during a challenging time. A Facebook post by Rhiannon Riley indicates the family is in need of:

    • Size 9 months boy clothes, size 2 diapers (Pampers and Luvs), Enfamil Gentlease formula (purple container)
    • Size 6-7 boys’ shirts and pants, size 1 to 1.5 shoe
    • Size 8-10 boys’ shirts and pants, size 2.5 to 3 shoe
    • Size L or XL men’s shirts, 34×34 pants, size 10 to 10.5 shoe
    • Size S or M women’s shirts, small or 4/6 pants, size 7.5 to 8 shoe

Any household items would also be greatly appreciated, organizers stated. Contact Riley via Facebook Messenger to coordinate any item donations.

“The road ahead will be long, but they aren’t walking it alone,” the GoFundMe narrative states. “As a community, we have a powerful opportunity to come together and support them during this unimaginable time. The Stuckeys are known for their warmth, strength, and kindness — and now they need ours.”

Organizers noted that every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward helping the Stuckeys get back on their feet — covering essentials like temporary housing, clothing, food and baby items, as well as long-term recovery efforts.

A benefit is also planned for the family at 1 p.m. July 12 at Smethport Fire Department, 109 S. Nelson St. Find the event on Facebook for more details as the event draws near.

EFFORT BENEFITS FAMILY OF ELK COUNTY WOMAN KILLED IN CRASH

Another active GoFundMe benefits the family of 20-year-old Jade Sanchez, the young Dagus Mines woman who was killed in a two-vehicle crash June 14 on South St. Marys Street.

    Jade Sanchez

At about 4:45 p.m. Sanchez pulled out of the St. Marys McDonald’s parking lot into the path of a vehicle northbound in the inside lane. The front of that vehicle struck the driver’s side of Sanchez’s vehicle, disabling both. Sanchez suffered a fatal injury in the collision.

Ananda Kline of Fox Township is listed as the GoFundMe organizer, on behalf of Tara Kreckel.

“Our family has been hit with a terrible tragedy. At just 20 years old we lost our beautiful Jade unexpectedly to an automobile accident on Saturday afternoon. I am starting this to help my cousins Jimmy and Tara, Jade’s parents, with the cost of the funeral and all the other expenses that come with an unexpected loss.”

As of Monday afternoon, the In Memory of Jade: Support Her Family GoFundMe had raised $8,251 of its $9,000 goal, 92%, on 167 donations.
