Legion Riders hold fifth annual benefit ride
American Legion Riders of Master Sgt. Thom Maholic Post 108, 210 W. Washington St., held their Fifth Annual Benefit Run on Sunday.
Summer arrived with near record high temperatures, but that did not deter the large group of veteran supporters from the biker community that showed up for the ride. This year’s benefit run consisted of five checkpoints and approximately 130 miles through northcentral Pennsylvania — crafted by the Legion Riders’ Road Captain Brian Weichmann.
The ride kicked off at 11 a.m. with an escort from Bradford City Police. A total of 46 participants on 37 motorcycles followed the predetermined route to checkpoints including American Legion posts at Emporium, St. Marys and Mount Jewett as well as the Dam Inn in Wilcox.
Following the ride, all returned to Post 108 for a tasty dinner provided by Post Manager Tarren Trout. Festivities culminated with various raffles as well as a chance auction table full of donated items. And, organizers said, “always a bonus — the comradery of new and old friends, past rides and good times.
Legion Riders of Post 108 will use the funds collected for assisting local veterans as well as other veteran-supportive groups. Organizers thanked all who donated prizes and their time for another successful benefit run.
The American Legion Riders Creed is, “We ride for God, country, freedom, those who serve or have served, POWs, MIAs and their families and our community.”
