‘Round the Square: ‘Oh, I’m a robin.’
BIRDS: It had somehow escaped our attention that there is such a thing as “birth month birds.”
We’ve heard of astrological signs, flowers of the month, and even birthstones, of course. But never did we think we’d be telling someone — “Me? Oh, I’m a robin.”
We suppose it makes sense to think of a robin as the bird of March, with the beginning of spring. Let’s take a look at the feathered friends featured on the calendar.
January is the owl. Farmers’ Almanac tells us, “People born in January are thought to have a thoughtful, wise, and quiet nature, as symbolized by the owl.”
February is the chickadee — “Chickadees keep busy searching for food and holding down their home turf, reminding us that life keeps going even when the weather outside isn’t that inviting.”
In March, the robin “reflects the tough and lively character often seen in people born in March. With deep roots in old stories, the robin is known for its strong feelings, honor, and ability to keep going.”
April is the duck, “symbolizing purity and good luck” and the “ability to adapt and persevere.” And to quack. April 1 is April Fool’s Day, known for quacking people up.
The month of May is symbolized by the hummingbird. “These agile and graceful creatures embody joy, love, and the ability to navigate life swiftly and effortlessly, making them particularly meaningful for those born in May.”
June is the dove, the international symbol for peace and harmony. They are known for being adaptable, like those born in June. “Beyond peace, the dove’s soft and gentle presence epitomizes love.”
We’ll bring you the rest of the year in another column. How’s the list doing so far?
