Events planned for Kinzua Bridge, other parks
MOUNT JEWETT — Events have been planned for this weekend at Kinzua Bridge, Bendigo and Elk state parks.
On Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. will be Tick Talk at Kinzua Bridge State Park. Join staff in the Visitor Center classroom to learn tips and tricks for keeping safe from tick bites while spending time outdoors.
At 11 a.m. Sunday will be an introduction to geocaching. Basics on using the units and geocaching will be given. Bring our own GPS or borrow a unit from the park on a first come, first served basis. This program is free and open to the public. Meet in front of the building.
At Bendigo State Park, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday will be a program on Animal Tracks and Traces. View animal tracks, skulls, and animal pelts while learning about native animals in Pennsylvania. Kids can enjoy coloring pages and track stamps. Stop by the pop-up table near the picnic area and pool.
From noon to 3 p.m. June 29 will be Bird Beak Buffet. Stop by the pop-up table near the picnic area to explore bird beak diversity. Use tools to model beaks from different species and try to “collect food.” View photos, skull replicas, and tracks from various species.
At Elk State Park, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday will be lakeside nature journaling. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon of art near the shores of East Branch Lake. Stop by the table at the beginning of Maple Trail to learn the basics of nature journaling and pick up supplies. Then, take a self-guided walk on Maple Trail to let the creativity flow.
From 3 to 6 p.m. June 28 will be the Elk State Park kayaking series. Sign-up for one of the free kayak programs happening at Elk State Park this summer. Learn the basics of flatwater kayaking and water safety, and then take a guided paddle up Seven Mile Run with DCNR staff.
