Tribe of Lions sets men’s safety seminar
From 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, the mats at Miller’s Kenpo Karate Dojo at 443 E. Main St., Suite 1, won’t just be for martial arts students — they’ll be the training ground for men learning how to stand strong and stay safe.
It’s the latest installment in the Forge Night series, hosted by Tribe of Lions, a men’s microchurch from Open Arms Community Church, and powered by Manlihood, a national men’s movement and podcast.
Forge Nights are monthly hands-on events designed to help men grow — spiritually, practically and relationally. This month’s session focuses on something every man should be equipped with: the skills and awareness to protect himself and others.
The Men’s Self-Defense Seminar will be led by Mike Miller, owner and instructor at Miller’s Kenpo Karate, who brings years of martial arts and real-world training experience to the mat. Participants will learn foundational techniques, situational awareness and the mindset required to respond with confidence when it counts.
“This isn’t about becoming a ninja overnight,” says Josh Hatcher, leader of Tribe of Lions and founder of Manlihood. “It’s about giving men the tools to protect their families, stay safe and walk with confidence. And it’s about learning that in a community of guys who have each other’s backs.”
Forge Nights are open to all men and teen boys, regardless of experience or background. Though Tribe of Lions is a faith-based microchurch that meets regularly for spiritual growth, Forge Nights are intentionally crafted as inclusive, no-pressure events where faith and practical life meet.
To help support the cost of the event and the dojo’s time, a $10 donation is suggested, but not required.
“Sometimes discipleship looks like a Bible study,” Hatcher says. “Other times, it looks like learning to change a tire — or defend yourself. Our goal is to help men become strong, capable, godly leaders in every area of life.”
This seminar is part of a growing calendar of Forge Nights, which have recently included basic car maintenance and will soon feature topics like barbecue skills, first aid and more.
The partnership with Manlihood — a podcast and men’s development platform with nearly a million downloads — helps amplify these local events to inspire a national movement of men pursuing purpose, strength and community.
