‘Round the Square: Sunday is Father’s Day
DADS: This Sunday is Father’s Day, the day marked to honor one’s father, along with paternal bonds, fatherhood and the influence of fathers in society.
How are you going to celebrate? Dads can be finicky, not openly wanting a fuss — but yearning for something special. Here are some suggestions.
Plan a family activity. Go for a hike, have a picnic, or visit a local park. Plan a movie night, with his favorite movie or a new one you know he’s been wanting to see, and plan a cozy night in. Game night, with board games, video games or even a family game tournament.
Or plan a special event, like attending a baseball game, concert or something he would enjoy.
Prepare a special meal with his favorites and bake a cake. Or treat dad to a nice dinner at a restaurant he likes, or has wanted to try.
Gift thoughtfully. Consider items like tools, books, or sporting goods, or something custom, like tickets to a sporting event, concert, or a special class.
Show appreciation with a personalized card with a heartfelt message. Offer help with chores, errands or other tasks. Throw in some simple acts of kindness, like preparing his morning coffee, doing his laundry or cleaning the house.
Make it memorable. Take photos or videos of the day’s activities. Start a new tradition that you can continue each year.
Focus on quality time. Prioritize spending time together and making memories.
Consider his interests and tailor the activities and gifts to his personality and preferences.
Focus on creating a meaningful experience rather than spending a lot of money.
Remember it’s about Dad and making the experience one he will remember.
