Inmate charged for alleged shank possession
An inmate at McKean County Jail has been charged with possessing a “shank” and scratching his cell window with a rock.
Kyle L. Nortum, 18, of Bradford, is charged with possessing an offensive weapon, a first-degree misdemeanor, and institutional vandalism, a second-degree misdemeanor.
On May 30, state police were called to the jail by Sheriff Dan Woods, who told them Nortum had picked up a rock during outdoor recreation and proceeded to scratch his cell window with it. He said the “light was too bright,” the criminal complaint stated.
Woods told the trooper that Nortum had a red plastic shank in his possession on May 23, but refused to say where it had come from, the complaint read.
Nortum was arraigned by District Judge Bill Todd and remanded to jail in lieu of $10,000. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Thursday.
Bradford woman charged for alleged theft
A Bradford woman has been charged for allegedly taking money from a care-dependent person.
Jenny Hogand, 57, of 80 Rochester St., is charged with access device fraud and identity theft, third-degree felonies; and theft by unlawful taking, a first-degree misdemeanor.
According to the criminal complaint, between May 6 and 10, Hogand used the ATM card of a care-dependent person to obtain $500 from the victim’s bank account without the victim’s knowledge or permission.
Hogand was arraigned before District Judge Rich Luther on June 4, and released on $5,000 unsecured bail. She is due in Central Court on June 26.
