St. Marys outscores Bradford Legion, 15-5
Bradford Legion fell to St. Marys 15-5 in baseball action Wednesday.
Bradford put marks on the board in the bottom of the first with two runs scored after Ethan Obergfell singled to center, knocking in Taryn Reese. Next, a St. Marys error gave Trey Buccholz an opportunity he took full advantage of, crossing home as well.
St. Marys remained scoreless until the top of the third, when they put up two runs. The tide turned however, in the top of the fourth, when St. Marys saw two players walk to load the bases. Despite a pitching change for Bradford, a third walk meant a run on the board and St. Marys taking the lead, 3-2.
Five more runs followed, giving St. Marys an 8-2 advantage as Bradford stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the inning. Buccholz walked, stole second and put himself in position to steal third and home on a pitch into the dirt for Nik Manroe. Monroe walked and made it to third, taking advantage of another wild pitch, this one to Ben Woodhouse, to make it home and cut the St. Marys lead to four.
St. Marys came up to bat in the top of the fifth and added two runs before another pitching change for Bradford resulted in a walk and strikeout, ending the inning.
Bradford’s final run came in the bottom of the sixth.
St. Marys added a run in the top of the seventh, giving them a 10-run advantage. Bradford sent four batters to the box but were unable to get any momentum, resulting in a final score of 15-5 for St. Marys.
Bradford returns to action today, hosting Kane.
