Winged wanderers
Naturalist Tom LeBlanc teaches kids about bird banding with the help of a grey catbird at the Allegany State Park Nature Pilgrimage on Sunday morning. Birds are captured as they fly into nets strung up in various spots near the Pilgrimage site. They are then brought to LeBlanc to be measured and logged in a book before he places a coded metal band on one of their legs. Some of the birds LeBlanc has logged in past years have been found as far away as South America.
