Port Allegany High School awards ceremony held
PORT ALLEGANY — Port Allegany High School Principal Marc Budd led the annual high school awards ceremony on May 23.
Underclassmen awards: Certificates of Excellence for attaining Honor Roll status during each grading period of the school year went to Cooper Bliss, Lila Glasgow, Kristina Houghtaling, Patrick Johnson, McKaylee McLeod and Emilee-Rae Yeager in 7th grade; Lincoln Barnard, Jacob Briggs, Aubreigh Butler, Lane Gay, Jaidyn Mahon, Owen Marzela, Iziah Petruzzi and Logan Reed in 8th grade; Chase Boyd, Ryan Carlson, Brennan Fillhart, Weston Foltz, Matthew Howard, Trace Kazimer, Holden Nance, Lily O’Rourke, Duke Shelley, Jackson Smith, Kason Stake, Delaney Stromberg and Bria Wilcox in 9th grade; Kaydence Beaver, Liam Hawver, Sienna Lathrop, Cyerrah Neely, Toryn Pierce, Isaac Postlewait, Lillianne Reed, Marcus Skinner, Connor Valentine and Derrick Xaros in 10th grade; and Kailey Bartlett, Madison Errick, Jarrod Funk, Isla Lehmier, Daniel Link, Patrick McMahon, Jenna Renner, Alyssa Tanner, Chloe Triplett and Journey Wilmoth in 11th grade.
Certificates of Superior Achievement for attaining High Honor Roll status during each grading period of the school year went to Jayden Parish and Lillian Valentine in 7th grade; Steven Alcock, Ayden Bachman, Sophia Bienkowski, Breah Fillhart, Natalie Grimes, Jonah McKiernan, Eliza Milliron, Christian Reed and Archer Trimm in 8th grade; Molly Barber, Mallory Johnson, Kaitlyn Kallenborn, Victor Link, Maddin Nelson, Alyssa Pelchy and Kylee Pelchy in 9th grade; Jordan Bailey and Alayna Palmer in 10th grade and Aiden Bliss, Micah Emerick, Brynn Evens, Madison Fillhart, Owen Kisler, Lily Lehmier, Kendra Meade, Natale Redmond, Alexander Schott, Ethan Tarbox and Nicholas Wilfong in 11th grade.
Perfect attendance for the 2024-2025 school year went to Donovan Benson, Jayden Parish, Garrin Wright, Chase Boyd and Aston Wright.
AR (Accelerated Reader) Awards were presented to Aliyah Bennett in 7th grade; Breah Fillhart in 8th grade; Mallory Johnson in 9th grade; Madison Dinch, in 10th grade and Kendra Meade in 11th grade.
The 7th grade Geography Award was presented to Jayden Parish; Student Handbook Cover Design also went to Jayden Parish; the Biology Award to Mallory Johnson; The Bonnie Scholar Award from St. Bonaventure went to Micah Emerick, Alyssa Tanner, Jarrod Funk and Chloe Knauer; the Science Award given to an 11th grade student from Bausch & Lomb ( a medal and opportunity to compete for a University of Rochester Scholarship) went to Alex Schott; the Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Sciences from the University of Rochester went to Micah Emerick; and the Alfred Scholar Award went to Nicholas Wilfong.
The Outdoor Sportsman’s Award went to Trace Kazimer for best fishing photo; Best Buck went to James Nichols; 5th place went to Lily Ingalls, 4th place – Carter Kio; 3rd place – Matt Howard, 2nd place to Tayton Roys and 1st place, for the third year in a row, went to Az Luk.
Senior Awards began with the Student Council officers awards presented to President Juuso Young; Vice President – Mason Gordon; Treasurer – Aidan Clark, Secretary – Tyler Fillhart and class representatives Raelin Meacham, Ella Moses, Derek Smith and Josh Veilleux. They were presented by Student Council Advisor Ben Palmer.
Penny Peine presented awards to the Peer Helpers including President, Lily Madison; vice president, Austin Hamilton; treasurer, Aidan Clark and secretary, Grace Finn.
National Honor Society awards went to President, Juuso Young; Vice President, Lily Madison; Secretary, Willow Sauers; Treasurer, Aidan Clark and members Tyler Fillhart, Grace Finn, Austin Hamilton, Levi Howard, Raelin Meacham, Ella Moses, Derek Smith and Joshua Veilleux and presented by Loren Ferguson.
Certificates of Excellence for attaining Honor Roll state for each marking period of the school year went to Connor Briggs, Tyler Carinci, Brieanna Daniels, Emily Errick, Grace Finn, Jersey Gamet, Austin Hamilton, Madison Langfitt, Tayton Roys, Beau Shelley, Isabelle VanNette, and Joshua Veilleux.
Certificates of Superior Achievement for attaining High Honor status for each marking period of the school year were presented to Lane Crawford, Levi Howard, Lily Madison, Raelin Meacham, Ella Moses, Joy Ou and Juuso Young.
Certificates of Distinguished Excellence for attaining Honor Roll status for each marking period for six years of school were presented to Grace Finn, Ella Moses, Willow Sauers, Isabella VanNette and Juuso Young.
The lone recipient of the Superior Academic Achievement Award for attaining High Honor Roll status for each marking period of six years of school was Lily Madison.
Senior Accelerated Reader Awards were presented to Aidan Clark with 1479 points, Lily Madison with 1496 points, Willow Sauers with 1623 points, Thomas Beeson with 2203 points and Grace Finn with 5643 points.
The Art Award went to Riley Painter; Senior Band Award to Conner Briggs and Aidan Clark; Band Front Award, Jersey Gamet; John Philip Sousa Award went to Raelin Meacham; Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, Lily Madison; Fred Waring Choral Director Award, Grace Finn; National School Choral Award, Aidan Clark and Raelin Meacham; Senior Chorus Award, Josh Veilleux and Lily Madison; Senior Drama Awards, Aidan Clark and Lily Madison; June Dunn Performing Arts Award of $500 presented by the Port Allegany Women’s Club, Bradford Creative & Performing Arts Scholarship of $750, and Robert B. Merten Circle of Fifths Music Award Scholarship of $1500 all went to Raelin Meacham.
The Varsity Club plaques went to Juuso Young, Lily Madison, Ella Moses, Aidan Clark, Austin Hamilton, Carson Neely and Jacob Causer for earning eight varsity letters during grades 9 through 12.
The Bob Davies-Lou Foy Student Athlete Awards were presented to Lily Madison and Juuso Young. The Varsity Club Scholarships of $1,000 each went to Ella Moses and Aidan Clark.
The David Lacher Memorial Award/Female Athlete of the Year Award went to Ella Moses and the Thomas Taylor Memorial Award/Male Athlete of the Year, went to Carson Neely.
The U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete Award was presented to Lily Madison and Aidan Clark; the Scholastic Excellence Award to Juuso Young; and the Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence to Raelin Meacham.
The U.S. Air Force Math & Science Award and the Scholar Athlete Award both went to Lily Madison and Juuso Young.
Awards given to seniors enrolled in the College Preparatory Course included the English Award, sponsored by Ardagh, $200, Grace Finn; Science Award, Juuso Young; Mathematics Award, Lily Madison, and Social Students Award, Aidan Clark, all $200 and sponsored by the Port Allegany Rotary Club.
The French Award was presented to Lily Madison and the Spanish Award went to Raelin Meacham, both $200, and both sponsored by Ardagh.
Derek Smith earned the Technology Award.
The Dylan Pesock Memorial Scholarship of $1000 and the Gerald Stayer Memorial Scholarship both went to Juuso Young; the John Thrash Memorial Award of $300/year for four years went to Austin Hamilton; the Larry Norton Award of $500 went to Aidan Clark; the Leo Coleman Award of $1100 went to Skyler Pelchy; the Eastman Award, two $500 awards for a senior boy and girl, ended in a tie and the four recipients of $250 were Grace Finn, Lily Madison, Juuso Young and Austin Hamilton; the Mountain Laurel Federal Credit Union $1000 award went to Ella Moses; the PAEA Higher Education Award given by the Port Allegany Education Association went to Raelin Meacham; the Port Allegany Student Scholarship of $500 each went to Grace Finn and Ella Moses. Tomorrow Makers Program PA College of Technology, three winners of $550/each went to Tayton Roys, Kelvin Burgess and Tyler Fillhart.
The Patricia Lloyd Memorial Award of $400 went to Juuso Young; the Paul Maynard Scholarship of Courage of $1000, sponsored by the Port Allegany VMI went to Brie Daniels; the Raymond Charles Varney Scholarship of $2000 went to Tyler Fillhart; the Richard K. Taylor Memorial Award of $500/each went to Raelin Meacham and Ella Moses, the Roxie Taylor Volunteer Scholarship of $1000 and sponsored by the Port Allegany VMI went to Raelin Meacham; The Lt. William E. Daisley, Jr. Mathematics Award of $500 went to Lily Madison; The Robert J.Edgreen Memorial Scholarship of $4000 went to Willow Sauers; the Hagan Scholar Award of up to $60,000 went to Ella Moses and Raelin Meacham; the Horatio Alger Scholarship of $10,000 went to Raelin Meacham; and the Jean Marie Swanson Scholarship of $10,788.41/each went to Grace Finn and Aidan Clark.
Budd ended the assembly asking for a standing ovation for two students — Lily Madison, headed to Harvard and Juuso Young, who is headed to West Point, and offering congratulations to all the students recognized at the assembly.
