Bradford library to kickoff summer June 9
Libraries across the nation are launching this year’s summer reading theme, “Color Our World,” encouraging readers of all ages to explore new ideas and experiences through leisure reading and library programming.
Registration is now open for the Bradford Area Public Library’s (BAPL) summer-long program of events. The kickoff event is at 6 p.m. June 9 when professional storyteller Alan Irvine will present Folk Tales and Legends from Around the World.
“We have a variety of offerings for children, teens, and area adults that encourage creativity, imagination, and the joy of reading,” reported Janelle Nolan, BAPL’s marketing and adult programming coordinator. “All are invited to visit the library’s website, bradfordlibrary.org, to learn more about each planned event.”
This summer children and teens will explore painting, fiber arts, writing, performance arts, sculpture, and photography led by BAPL advisors, Bonnie Leposa and Katy Merolla, with additional support from Courtney Mealy, Pitt-Bradford’s Director of Arts Programming.
The adult programming Community Art project for the summer is an origami crane mobile to hang in the library. Adults are also encouraged to enter the library’s inaugural Tiny Art Show, and to try their hand creating granny squares to be added to an afghan that will be raffled in the fall.
Besides BAPL’s special events throughout the summer, the library’s regular monthly programming will also contain many new offerings, such as The Next Chapter Book Club for middle school students, an Outdoor Life Series and Yoga Mash for adults, and a Kindness Club for grade schoolers, just to name a few.
As always, the library’s events remain free to the public. This year BAPL is grateful to the United Way of Bradford for their support of the library’s children and teen programming.
