Crosby Legion salutes Memorial Day
John Berg Memorial Legion Post 976 in Crosby held its annual Memorial Day ceremonies Saturday. The day began with a ceremony and gun salute at the veterans memorial at the Crosby baseball field. Chief Engineman Francis Doutt was the Officer of the Day and Sgt. Bruce Hale was the keynote speaker. The group then proceeded to the edge of Potato Creek to launch a wreath in honor of deceased U.S. Navy veterans. Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Victor Mechanye placed the wreath and the firing squad, led by Sgt. James Hauck, offered a salute. The Honor Guard then performed a gun salute at Norwich Cemetery in Colegrove. Following the ceremony at the cemetery, a soup and sandwich luncheon was served by the Legion Auxiliary at the post.
