CLEARFIELD — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Potter County Maintenance Division announced it will reduce part of Phoenix Road (Route 1005) in Pike Township to one lane today due a slide condition that has worsened during the early spring thaw and recent significant rainfall that has saturated the slope.

The slide is approximately 1.5 miles north of the intersection with Route 6. PennDOT said that closing the northbound lane, which takes traffic toward Ulysses and Westfield, will mitigate risk to drivers traveling this portion of Phoenix Road. It is placing a stop sign at each end of the lane closure, and drivers will take turns passing through the slide area via the open lane.

PennDOT said the lane will remain closed indefinitely while a project to correct the condition is designed and bid. It does not have a timetable for when repairs will begin but will issue updates as more information becomes available.

The average number of vehicles that travel this portion of Phoenix Road per day is less than 150. PennDOT anticipates minimal traffic impacts but encourages drivers to allow extra time for their commute.
