AUSTIN — Free programs have been set at Sinnemahoning State Park for June.

Starting off Sunday, pontoon tours of the Stevenson Reservoir will be held at 9 and 10:30 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m.

Join park staff for a relaxing and informative tour around the lake, as we cruise the shoreline of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir in search of wildlife. Group size is limited. To reserve a seat, please pre-register. Registration is not required but is strongly recommended. Meets at the Lake Day Use Area.

On June 7, from 1 to 3 p.m., a two-hour program will be held on orienteering basics. Learn how to navigate across the landscape using only a compass and a map.

This program will teach participants how to read and use a compass, shoot an azimuth, understand declination and plot and follow a course on a map. Pre-registration is required for this program. Meets at the 40 Maples Day Use Area. Register on the DCNR’s events website.

From 3 to 4 p.m.

Saturday will be a program on Turtles on the Trail. Early June is nesting season for Sinnemahoning State Park’s turtles and that means many turtles will be out of the water and searching for a place to make a nest. Join a park naturalist to look for and document which species of turtles may be crossing the Lowlands trail during this busy time of year. Meets at the Wildlife Center.

From 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. will be Turtles of The First Fork Valley. Join a park naturalist and learn what species of turtles can be found in and around Sinnemahoning State Park. Meet at the Campground Amphitheater.

From 9 a.m. to noon June 14, there will be a kayak nature tour. Take a relaxing paddle out on the lake in search of wildlife and recreation.

Borrow the park’s kayaks and equipment or bring your own. Open to participants aged 10 to adult.

Group size is limited. Preregistration is required.
