Bradford Branch of AAUW
The Bradford Branch of AAUW honored Katherine Nussbaum and Debbie Price at its annual spring banquet at First Presbyterian Church.
Katherine Nussbaum was named as the recipient of the Outstanding Woman Award for 2024-2025. This award is given to a member of the branch for meritorious service to the branch and to the community.
Nussbaum is a 2010 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. She received a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 2012. She is currently employed as a librarian at the Hanley Library at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford where she serves as the service desk supervisor. In this capacity, she oversees the smooth circulation process of library material, patron interactions and assists users with research questions. A large responsibility of her position is to train, supervise and mentor 18 student employees. These student workers help keep the library open 16 hours a day, 4 days a week and during weekends.
As a young girl, Nussbaum remembers her grandfather encouraging her to volunteer her time. She took his advice and served as a volunteer at the Bradford Area Public Library. Little did she know that her early experience would lead to a part-time position and helped open the door for her current career as a professional librarian working within the highly respected University of Pittsburgh Library system.
Even with her busy schedule, Nussbaum finds time to serve as the technology liaison for Hanley Library to the University Library System. She is also the secretary of the Pitt-Bradford Staff Association and serves on the Pitt-Bradford Alumni Board. Katie even had the opportunity to teach two First Year Seminar classes, which she found extremely rewarding.
Since joining AAUW, Nussbaum has generously shared her time, energy, ideas, and expertise with the branch. She has spearheaded the creation and design of a new Bradford Branch website and social media campaign. She is always one of the first members to volunteer for projects and events. She will be serving as the next vice president of membership for the next two years.
Deborah L. Price was the recipient of the AAUW Gateway to Equity Award for 2024 – 2025. This award recognizes individuals, groups or organizations that have shown, by action and philosophy, that they advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, or research. She was recognized for her lifetime commitment to advancing opportunities for women and girls through her leadership, advocacy, and vision as a working professional and as a volunteer.
Price was born and raised in Bradford. After high school, she received her Nursing Diploma from Hamot Medical Center. She later received her B.S in Nursing from Alfred University and her MBA from the University of Dallas. During her career, Price served as the Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nurse Executive at Bradford Regional Medical Center for 20 years.
In 2012, Price was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer at Evergreen Elm, an organization that provides quality living arrangements and life programs for intellectually challenged and mentally challenged adults in McKean County. Under her leadership, she guided Evergreen Elm’s growth and fostered a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Following the destruction of the largest residential home by fire, Price effectively collaborated with the government, the board, city officials, and builders to ensure that a new building was constructed and operational within two years.
In all of her appointments, Price utilized her medical background and skills and her expertise in strategic planning, fundraising, supervision and fiscal management to strengthen and revitalize the organizations.
Throughout her career, Debbie has held positions on various boards and organizations, such as the Bradford Rotary Club, Friends of Hanley Library, Bradford Ecumenical Home Auxiliary, and First Presbyterian Church. She has been honored by the Bradford YWCA and the Bradford Rotary Club.
As an employee and a volunteer, Debbie has helped make Bradford and McKean County a better place. Individuals who have worked closely with Price admire her integrity, compassion, knowledge, leadership skills and her history of standing up for the rights of all individuals, especially for those in need of an advocate.
