Superior Court affirms Haun’s sentence
SMETHPORT — The state Superior Court has affirmed the sentence of an Eldred man convicted of crimes including threatening a child with a gun.
Phillip Haun Jr., 42, was convicted of two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, terroristic threats, simple assault and resisting arrest. He had been sentenced to state prison for 27 months to 72 months, and remains incarcerated.
McKean County District Attorney Stephanie Vettenburg-Shaffer said the investigation into Haun “began after his 9-year-old autistic child reported to a school counselor that his father, Haun, had choked him, shoved him, pointed guns at him while telling him he would kill him and threatened to stab him with a knife.”
She said the child reported the conduct to caseworkers, forensic interviewers and other school personnel. After the child described the guns his father pointed at him, police obtained a warrant and located the firearms. “Trooper Neil Ginther of the Pennsylvania State Police investigated the case and, when he and other troopers attempted to arrest Haun at his residence, Haun resisted arrest and attempted to conceal his hands and flail his legs,” Shaffer said.
