Steelers’ Howard prank-called multiple times during NFL Draft
(TNS) – Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Will Howard revealed during an interview with Missi Matthews that he was prank-called multiple times during the NFL Draft.
“I remember sitting there, sitting on my couch for the first three day, a couple of times I got impatient or wanted to get up and get a snack,” Howard said. “So I ended up, right there during the sixth-round, I stood up and I went to the kitchen just because I was tired of sitting in the same spot. And that was where I got the call, it was a relief seeing that number come up, 412 number with Pittsburgh Steelers over the top. I had gotten prank-called a few times, so it was nice to actually have a real one.”
Multiple prospects came out to reveal they had received prank calls, including a viral one directed at Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders’ phone number was meant for only NFL personnel, but Jax Ulbrich, the son of Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, received Sanders’ number by looking through his father’s iPad.
There were more than that, too, and Howard is just the latest to say he had been prank-called throughout the three days he was waiting to hear his name.
Howard transferred into Columbus from Kansas State, where he was a multiple-year starter and team captain. During his season, the Buckeyes were an up-and-down offense, but became an elite unit once Howard’s play took a significant leap in the College Football Playoff.
This season, Howard threw for 4010 passing yards, a career-high. With that, he posted a 73 percent completion percentage, another career-high mark. Howard had 35 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.
