Composting workshop set for June 14
SMETHPORT — The McKean County Conservation District and the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners will partner to hold a free composting workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 14 at the McKean County 911 Center at 17175 Route 6.
Learn about backyard conservation and composting, a natural process and a great way to recycle the organic waste generated at home. Food scraps and garden waste combined make up more than 28% of what we throw away. Anything that grows decomposes eventually, and composting simply speeds up the process. The resulting decomposed matter is rich in nutrients and can be used for gardening, horticulture and agriculture.
This program will include materials, free composting bin and necessary information to implement conservation practices at home.
While the workshop is free, it is limited to 30 participants. To register, contact the district at (814) 887-4001 by June 6.
