Body of missing man found in Olean by officer with drone
OLEAN, N.Y. — A 43-year-old man reported missing more than a month ago was found dead in a marshy area of Olean by a city police officer training with a drone.
Christopher E. Herron Sr. was reported missing April 10 after being last seen on Fulton Street, and the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office had been seeking information from the public in an attempt to locate him.
The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau is now seeking information from anyone who may have seen Herron around the time of his disappearance. Anyone with relevant information should contact call the sheriff’s office at (716) 938-2217, or through the anonymous tip line by calling or texting (716) 498-3268.
Capt. Robert Blovsky of the Olean Police Department said Thursday that an officer working with a drone spotted the body on Saturday.
“It was probably 9 or so in the morning; one of our guys was doing some training with the drone and saw the body,” Blovsky said. “It was in that swamp area down off of Center Street and Fourth Avenue.”
Once the body was spotted, officers entered the area identified Herron through papers he was carrying. The Olean Police Department then called in the coroner and notified the sheriff’s office, which has taken over the investigation.
