Art in the Wilds announces artists’ selection

KANE — Forty artists hailing from Erie to Pittsburgh to Philadelphia and across New York’s southern tier have been selected to participate in the 19th annual Art in the Wilds art show to be held in Kane on June 28 and 29.

That’s the word from the show’s Artistic Director Merry Ryding.

Ryding explained that artists compete to participate in the show, with the final selection made by a panel of experienced artists.

The jurying process assures only the highest quality art is available for display and sale, Ryding said.

Art in the Wilds is the only juried fine arts and crafts show in the Pennsylvania Wilds region.

“We limit the show to only 40 artists,” explained Art in the Wilds President Julie Cleland. “That assures we can provide an atmosphere in which visitors can get to know the artists, appreciate their art, and do so in the beautiful setting of Kane’s Evergreen Park.”

Artists selected to participate in the various categories include:

    • Pottery and ceramics: Amanda Wolf, Richard Day, Krysta Robinson and Francine Zajac.
    • Fiber: Debbie Penley, Pam Bartl and Rachel Stine.
    • Glass: Kalpana Lehman, Amy Hahn and Julian Maturino.
    • Jewelry: Gerina Faison, Colette Anderson, Mimi Antonetti, Kaylee Taylor, Laura Gooley, Deborah Moyer, Christina Krautz and Mauricio Riano.
    • Leather: Elie Abdelahad.
    • Mixed media: Dawn Johnson, Victor and Megan Huston-Field and Jennifer Nicholson.
    • Painting: Craig Peterson, Jack Paluh, Denise Drummond, Perry Winkler, Ellen Paquette and Chandler Beatty.
    • Photography: Larry Downey, James Hoggard, Michael Weishan, Jane Axman and Rocky Holland.
    • Metal sculpture: Jody Aiello, Mark English and Anthony Arkus.
    • Wood: Jim Wright, Gregg Kristophel, Jack Northrop and John Sterling.

Information about the artists and their creations is available at artinthewilds.org.

Art in the Wilds is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Parking is free, there is no admission charge and an array of food options is available for purchase on site.

Show organizers noted that because of a borough ordinance dogs are not permitted in Evergreen Park or on the art show grounds.
