EMPORIUM: Let your imagination run wild this summer at the library

EMPORIUM — Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library invites children to join the most colorful adventure of the summer with the launch of its 2025 Summer Reading Program, “Color Our World!”

This year’s program is all about exploring the world through books and creativity — combining the magic of reading with the joy of self-expression. Children entering grades K through 6 are encouraged to join the fun by setting personalized reading goals and tracking their progress throughout the summer.

Registration opens June 2 and runs through June 27. Families can sign up online by visiting barbaramoscatobrownlibrary.org under the “Library Programs” tab or stopping by the library in person during regular service hours.

The reading program officially runs June 30 through July 26 and is designed to be flexible and family-friendly. Kids can set goals that work for them — by books or chapters — and build reading into their summer in a way that fits around vacations, camps, and playtime.

To kick things off, the library will host a Summer Reading Kickoff Party with a Collage Sunflower Workshop with Sarah Jane at 4 p.m. June 27. All area children K through sixth grade are invited to join local artist Sarah Jane to explore collage art by creating a collage peekaboo sunflower on canvas. This will be followed by pizza and a short storytime with library staff.

This, and all other summer Art Events/Workshops are open to all children, regardless of their participation in the Summer Reading Program. Participants must register for each event separately as space and supplies are limited.

The participants who complete their reading logs throughout the program will receive a prize pack filled with loads of goodies and a Color Our World t-shirt. Anyone who wants can also purchase a limited edition “Color Our World” t-shirt for $5, with sizes available from youth small to adult 3XL.

Whether your child is a seasoned bookworm or just discovering the joy of reading, this year’s program offers something for everyone — with plenty of space to grow, explore, and create.

For more information, call the library at (814) 486-8011 or visit the website.
