Clarion man arrested for fentanyl, gun during stop
KANE — A Clarion man was arraigned Friday for allegedly having a pistol and fentanyl in his possession on an August 2024 state police traffic stop in Lewis Run.
Thomas Hannold, 53, of South Fifth Avenue, is charged with possession of a firearm prohibited, a second-degree felony; firearms not to be carried without a license, a third-degree felony; possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, at 11:12 p.m. Aug. 17, 2024, state police pulled over a vehicle on U.S. Route 219 in Lewis Run for having a light out. While one trooper was checking the driver for possible DUI, the other trooper dealt with three occupants in the vehicle, including Hannold, who had a bench warrant out of Clarion. He was found to be in possession of fentanyl, and a backpack he was carrying contained a 9 mm handgun. Also in the car were pieces of cotton and a plastic container with residue, and two pieces of waxed paper.
Hannold was arraigned before District Judge David Engman and freed on $10,000 unsecured bail. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Engman on May 27.
