    BATON ROUGE, La. — Kaylee VanWhy of Coudersport, Pa., was recently elected to membership in The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society, at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania.

    VanWhy is among approximately 20,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year.

    Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.

    JAMESTOWN, N.Y.

    – Janell Dinch from Smethport, Pa., was honored with the Elaine Johnson Memorial Award by SUNY Jamestown Community College during an academic award ceremony at the Jamestown Campus in May.

    OLEAN, N.Y. The following SUNY Jamestown Community College students received academic awards from the Cattaraugus County Campus in May: From Bradford, Pa., Nicole Bennett received the Thomas J. Burke Memorial Soldiers Love Nurses Award; Zander Lekas received the Daniel W. Ebersole Memorial Award; and Jill Martin received the Phyllis Kraemer Memorial Nursing Award From Shinglehouse, Pa., Alexandria Bechelli received the Dr. Robert G. Ney Memorial Scholarship, Holmberg Transfer Scholarship, and Phi Theta Kappa All New York Academic Team.

    MANCHESTER, N.H.

    — Several area students were among those named to the president’s list for the spring 2025 semester at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).

    Local students named to the list were Kristen Moore and Victoria Pire of Bradford, Devin Burdick of Ulysses, Harleigh Hughes of Galeton, Chloe Blauvelt of Shinglehouse, Victor Bandish of Port Allegany, Christine Zwald of St.

    Marys, Vincent Azzato of Kersey and Mackenzie Druzak of Brockport.

    Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum gradepoint average of 3.7 and better for the reporting term are eligible.

    PENNSYLVANIA WESTERN UNIVERSITY — Penn West recognized many local students among nearly 3,000 who were named to the spring 2025 dean’s list.

    To be eligible, fulltime students must earn a semester grade point average of 3.4 or better.
