Over $44k in grants awarded from Wolfinger donor advised funds

OLEAN, N.Y. — The Connie and Sandy Wolfinger Fund and the Wolfinger Family Fund — both donor advised funds established by Harold “Sandy” and Connie Wolfinger at the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation — collectively awarded more than $44,000 in grants to various nonprofit organizations in April.

The Wolfingers established these funds to make grants to charitable causes that they hold dear.

The Olean General Hospital Foundation received $11,000 total: $10,000 for the Wolfinger Fund and $1,000 to the OGH Heartbeat Society.

North Park Wesleyan Church in Cuba, New York was awarded $6,000, along with Penn State University Mont Alto Campus – Sandy’s alma mater. Penn State University State College Campus received $6,000 for the forest ecology and management program and $300 for the James C.

Finley Center for Private Forests – all causes near and dear to Sandy, a longtime forester.

The YMCA of the Twin Tiers was awarded a grant of $2,100 in support of the Erick Laine Outdoor Center.

Receiving a grant of $1,700 was the United Way of Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties.

HomeCare & Hospice was the recipient of $1,000.

Cuba Friends of Architecture received $700: $300 for the Cuba Beautification Committee and $400 for Palmer Opera House. Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Program also received $700.

Grantees receiving $600 include Genesis House of Olean, Olean Food Pantry, Pennsylvania Forestry Association, St.

Luke’s Episcopal Church (Smethport, Pa.) and Interfaith Caregivers Inc.

The Eldred (Pa.) World War II Museum received $550.

The SPCA in Cattaraugus County and the Wounded Warrior Project each received $500, while Samaritan’s Purse and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation were granted $400.

The Allegheny Highlands Council, Boys Scouts of America, Phyllis Green Memorial Scholarship, Allegany County Area Foundation, Empire Animal Rescue Society, The Salvation Army, The ReHabilitation Foundation, Weston’s Mills Fire Department Kinney Hose Company and Ellicottville Great Valley Recreational Trail Fund received $300.

The Bob McCarthy Foundation received $250 in memory of Bob McCarthy.

Recipients of $200 grants include Canticle Farm, Comfort House of Allegany County, Cuba Fire Department, Ellicottville Central School Alumni Association, Great Valley Community Church, Humphrey Volunteer Fire CO, Inc, Portville Free Library, Town of Cuba Ambulance Service, Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots of Olean, Citizens Advocating Memorial Preservation (CAMP) Fund, Coudersport (Pa.) Volunteer Fire Department, Smethport (Pa.) Fire Department and Wreaths Across America.

Receiving $100 are the American Cancer Society, Cuba Circulating Library and Friends of the Library of Olean.

Kirk Windus, CRCF executive director, emphasized the lasting impact of these grants.

“It is deeply rewarding to help donors like the Wolfingers make an enduring difference in our community,” he stated. “The community foundation’s role is to help amplify the impact of donor’s philanthropic efforts. It is our privilege to help Sandy and Connie Wolfinger put their good deeds in motion through these funds in their names.”
