The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford hosted Day 1 of the AMCC Softball Championships Friday.
Penn State-Behrend, Pitt-Greensburg and Penn State-Altoona all claimed first day victories. A more in-depth look at each game is outlined below.
Pitt-Bradford faced off with Penn State-Behrend in Game 2, with Penn State-Behrend claiming an 8-0 victory. The Lady Panthers return to action at 9 a.m. today, facing off with Mt. Aloysius.
GAME 1: PITTGREENSBURG 3, HILBERT
COLLEGE 1 Mckenzie Lamb smashed a two RBI single in the bottom of the third and Hunter Taylor belted a home run in the bottom of the fifth to key Pitt-Greensburg’s win Friday.
On the mound for Pitt-Greensburg was Autumn Powell, who gave up four hits and walked three while striking out eight.
Alana Yadov suffered the mound loss, striking out four, walking eight and surrendering five hits.
GAME 2: PENN STATEBEHREND 8, PITTBRADFORD 0 Sierra Williams hit a home run to left field and knocked in two runs to key Penn State-Behrend’s win. Also leading the Lady Lions was Julia Jones with two RBIs.
Sara Stroup had a double to lead Pitt-Bradford.
On the mound for Penn State-Behrend was Abby Tingley, who struck out one, walked two and gave up three hits.
Working the mound for Pitt-Bradford was Sandra Watne, who walked one and gave up six hits, striking out none. GAME 3: PITT-GREENSBURG 3, MT. ALOYSIUS 1 Hunter Taylor hit a home run in the top of the fourth to lead Pitt-Greensburg.
On the mound for the winners was Melanie Mienke, who struck out seven and gave up five hits and no walks.
Suffering the mound loss was Jessica Koptcho, who struck out eight and gave up eight hits and no walks.
GAME 4: PENN STATEALTOONA 4, PENN STATEBEHREND 3 Gianna Hoppel went 3-for-4 and Alyssa Fisher went 2-for-4 with a double to lead Penn State-Altoona in a comeback win.
Penn State-Altoona was trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth when Madison Kennedy smacked a three-run home run to turn the tides and give Penn State-Altoona what was ultimately the deciding run in the game.
Earning the mound win was Josselyn Nau, who allowed seven hits while recording no strikeouts or walks.
On the mound for Penn State-Behrend was Abby Tingley, who gave up 10 hits while striking out three and walking three.
