The Guidance Center celebrates Mental Health Awareness Month
The Guidance Center has joined the national movement in recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month throughout May.
With a full calendar of events and initiatives, The Guidance Center aims to spread awareness, reduce stigma and empower both staff and the community to prioritize mental wellness.
A free Adult Mental Health First Aid Training will be held 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 22 at The Guidance Center’s Community & Training Center, 24 W. Washington St. Sponsored by Rays of Hope, The Guidance Center and the McKean County Department of Human Services, this oneday course is open to the public, but space is limited and early registration is encouraged. Mental Health First Aid training is an evidence-based training that teaches how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges.
The Guidance Center, representatives said, is committed to creating a culture where mental health is openly discussed and supported. This May, the agency strives to not only raise awareness but also equip people with tools to take action to assist and strengthen the community.
To close out the month, Steps Drop-In Center will host a Mental Health Awareness Carnival from 1 to 3 p.m. May 30. This free event will include music, games and snacks while providing an engaging way to celebrate mental wellness and con- nection. Additionally, all staff are encouraged to wear green the week of May 12 to 18 in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. To recognize the dedication of its team, The Guidance Center will also hold daily staff giveaways throughout May, celebrating the compassionate and critical work being done every day.
