Union Sportsmen’s Alliance to host free youth fishing event
ST. MARYS — The Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA) will host a free public fishing event at Twin Lakes in Wilcox on Saturday.
The 2025 IUE-CWA Local 502 Take Kids Fishing Day, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will introduce local families to fishing opportunities available at Twin Lakes. It will be held at the pavilion use upper parking area, 2324 Twin Lakes Road.
The event will provide an opportunity for children from various backgrounds and all physical abilities to enjoy the sport of fishing while learning about the importance of conservation. Union volunteers will provide kids and their parents with instruction and assistance, and all registered youths will receive a free fishing rod and reel.
Organized by the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance and IUE-CWA Local 502 in St. Marys, the event is a part of a series of free, community based youth outreach activities organized under the USA’s flagship conservation program, Work Boots on the Ground. The capacity is 150 participants.
Fishing is more than just a pastime— it’s a lifelong adventure that connects people with nature and each other. With over 40 million anglers fueling a $35 billion industry and contributing $600 million annually to fisheries conservation and water access, the impact of this sport is undeniable. To keep this tradition alive, it’s essential to inspire the next generation of anglers.
Studies show that outdoor activities like fishing spark curiosity in kids, helping them develop a lasting appreciation for nature and conservation. That’s why we’re excited for this year’s event, where young anglers will learn the ropes from experienced union members — creating lifelong memories.
