‘LongBeard’ turkey competition on tap at Wilds Sonshine Factory
KANE — On Saturday, Kane’s Wilds Sonshine Factory will host the inaugural “PA Longbeard Classic” — similar to a big buck contest, but for turkeys.
The goal of this event is to promote economic growth for local and surrounding area businesses, while promoting responsible conservation and hunting comradery.
The event is expected to draw hunters and the general public from across the state and beyond to participate in the tournament or to attend the day-of family friendly festivities, including an assortment of vendors, food/beverages, and live music entertainment.
Participants can register as either “High-Stakes” ($450/two-person team) or “Amateur” ($200/two-person team) with chances to win cash payouts for first, second and third places in each respective class. Teams also receive event shirts, meal tickets for the awards banquet dinner at 4 p.m., and free entry to win high-value door prizes, including a Benelli Super Black Eagle 12-gauge, two additional turkey shotguns, optics packages, game calls, food plots, trail cameras and more that are only available to contest participants (must be present to win). More information and registration can be found at wildssonshinefactory. org/longbeardclassic Day-of festivities are open to the general public and begin at 11 a.m. Free lunch will be provided to hunters (plus one guest) until 3:30 p.m., and can be enjoyed while listening to live music from 1 to 4 p.m. by Tyler Calkins. There will be a limited number of extra meal tickets available to the general public for purchase for the catered awards banquet dinner.
