Causer highlights grants to local senior centers
Recognizing the vital role senior centers play in supporting the health and well-being of area senior citizens, Rep. Martin Causer, R-Turtlepoint, highlighted state grants he recently obtained for the centers.
‘Every time I visit one of our senior centers, I am reminded about just how important they are to our older residents,’ Causer said. ‘From providing meals and educational programs to wellness and social opportunities, these facilities — and more importantly, the people who staff them and volunteer there — serve as a second home and second family to so many of our seniors.’
During a morning visit Tuesday to the Oswayo Valley Senior Center, Causer presented a ceremonial $100,000 check to Potter County Human Services. The grant funding was split evenly among the county’s four senior centers in Coudersport, Galeton, Shinglehouse and Ulysses.
Similarly, during an afternoon visit to the Greater Bradford Senior Activity Center, Causer presented a ceremonial $200,000 check to the Office of Human Services Area Agency on Aging. That funding was split evenly among McKean County’s six senior centers in Bradford, Eldred, Kane, Mount Jewett, Port Allegany and Smethport, and Cameron County’s two senior centers in Driftwood and Emporium.
‘Each center received $25,000 to be used as their leadership saw fit, whether it was helping with utility bills and rent, building repairs or maintenance, equipment, supplies, meals and more,’ Causer said. ‘This is a worthwhile investment to ensure these valuable services continue to be available in our communities.’
