Owls’ Frair named MVP at the 38th Annual McDowell Invitational
ERIE — Bradford’s Brayden Frair won the 1600M, the 800M, and the 3200M in hotly contested races. His times were impressive considering the weather on Friday night. He ran the 1600M in 4:27.66, the 800M in 1:58.60, and the 3200M in 9:40.30.
“He definitely earned this MVP award. He is one of the hardest workers we have had in the 54 years I have been head coach at Bradford High School,” Bradford boys coach Tom Tessena said. “Brayden also went over 600 points for his career. He now has 609 points.”
In a 20 school field, Bradford placed 3rd with 66.5 points being beaten only by Fort Lebouef (95) and McDowell(68).
“It was the same finish as the Harbor Creek Invitational two weeks ago but we almost got McDowell this time losing by a scant 1.5 points. Once again we lost places by a second or less in all three relays,” Tessena said.
Frair’s day was something special but we had some other great performances. Enzo Aiello won the Pole Vault with a 13’0” leap. He also led off the 400M relay with a team including Logan Kohler, Jeremiah Long, and Fabian Sherk to a 7th place finish in their best time of the year(45.69).
Kohler notched his best marks in both hurdles. He placed 4th in the 110M HH(15.77) and 5th in the 300M IH(42.70). He also was on the 4x400M relay that placed 6th (4:39.68) with Kadyn Tessena, Marcus Terwilliger, and Danny Marasco.
Marcus Terwilliger placed 3rd in the high jump (5’11”) and ran the second fastest split in the 1600 relay with a time of 54.0.
“This was Marcus’s first time in this relay and he really took advantage of it. Going forward he has a spot on this relay,” Tessena stated. “He also did the triple jump (38’8.25”) for 13th place. He was 11th in the long jump(18’8”) for a solid day.”
Kadyn Tessena also ran on the 7th place 3200M relay with Joe Caruso, Evan Troisi, and freshman Jordan Hogue for a time of 8:57.18. Tessena also was 12th in the 800M (2:09.1). The wind was pretty bad and the rain didn’t help anyone who had to run all the way around the track. Troisi also ran the 3200M(10:56.52-17th) while Joe Caruso did the 1600M(5:00.88 – 20th). Hogue also had a personal best in the 400M(57.7312st place).
Danny Marasco had Bradford’s fastest split in the 1600M relay (52.0) and was 9th in the triple jump(39’10.25).
Fabian Sherk was just getting started with that 400M relay. He placed second in the triple jump(41’11”), 4th in the long jump(20’3”), and 5th in the high jump(5’8”). On the day he helped scored 19 points. Sophomore Cooper McGee placed 7th in the pole Vault(10’6”). We had some guys really step up today.
Bradford competitors also included: Dom Dac Pos in the 100M (12.45), Matt DeCasper in the 100M(12.26) and 200M(25.97), Cavan Drake in the 400M(59.80), Noah Mackey in the 110m HH(20.84 — personal best).
“The jumping events and the throws had to contend with horrible conditions. The long and triple jump areas were bad, but the throwing venues wert even worse,” Tessena said.
Landon Davenport placed 8th in the discus( 115’0” and 17th in the shot put(36’7”). Joe cary was 17th in the javelin( 114’1”) and 16th in the Discus(102’8”). Andrew Giordano was 9th in the Shot(41’0”), 11th in the javelin(136’10”) and 15th in the Discus(103’1”).
“We had some guys who weren’t 100% today and that didn’t help. We are running out of time with Districts three weeks away,” Tessena said. “DuBois is getting stronger, St. Marys is improving and Punxy and Clearfield both lead in several first places at Districts. That doesn’t leave much for us unless we get everyone moving.”
