Bradford’s Frair breaks the school record in the 800 Meters
The Bradford Owls won their Senior Night meet despite one day less to practice. Bradford defeated ECC 128-22 in a meet that was moved up a day to avoid a dreary and potentially dangerous Tuesday forecast.
“On Senior Recognition day and our only home meet left, Brayden Frair did it right. He broke the record for the 800 meter race by running 1:55.9,” Bradford boys coach Tom Tessena said. “He broke Aziz Yousif’s record of 1:56.44 set in 2013 on his way to four first places to lead the Owls over Elk County by a score of 128 to 22. Brayden now has set records in the 800M,1600M, 3200M, and the 2000M Steeplechase.
“It was business as usual for Brayden. He is a special guy. Not to be outdone, junior Logan Kohler had a four-first place day as well,” Tessena said. “Logan won the 110M high hurdles(15.84), the 300M Intermediate hurdles(41.03-personal Best), the 200M(24.36), and ran on our 4x100M relay along with Enzo Aiello, Jeremiah Long, and Fabian Sherk in a season best time of 45.39. Aiello won the pole Vault (12’6”) while Long won the 100M(12.00).”
Frair’s other three wins came in the 1600M (4:50.40), the 3200M relay and the 1600M relay. The 3200 team included Kadyn Tessena, Evan Troisi, and Joe Carsuo. Tessena ran on the winning 1600M relay team for his second first place. He also had two 2nd places(400M-54.71 Personal best) and the 200M (25.25.18) for a solid day. Joe Caruso won the 3200M for his double. The 1600M team of Frair, Tessena, Danny Marasco, and Marcus Terwilliger ran a nice time of 3:37.57. Marasco also won the 400M (52.86 Personal best) and the long jump (21’1.5”) for a triple win day.
Bradford’s field event crew came alive with wins in long jump(Marasco), pole Vault(Aiello), javelin ( Andrew Giordano – 151’11), Shot Put (Andrew Giordano 40’7”), and the Discus ( Joe Cary -118’0”). Cary also had a personal best in the javelin of 144’7”.
“We honored our four Seniors at the conclusion of the meet. Brayden Frair, Joe Cary, Joe Caruso, Dom Dac Pos with some gifts and many thanks for four years of hard work on the track team,” Tessena said. “These guys were great representatives for the Bradford School District, their team, and their parents.
“We also had a bunch of young guys who were in their first varsity meet that did quite well. It was a good all around day for the team. Our next meet will be at Altoona on Friday night. We will only be taking a small group because the standards are very high. Today was definitely a step in the right direction,” Tessena said. “We just have to keep working and improving.”
Bradford girls defeat ECC, 84-63 Bradford’s Alyssa Mangold quadrupled (100 hurdles, long jump, 400 relay, 1600 relay) and Aliya Corignani tripled (triple jump, 300 hurdles, 1600 relay) as the Lady Owls defeated ECC Monday for Senior Night.
In a meet originally scheduled for today but bumped up due to forecasted inclement weather, Bradford also had double wins from Maranda Davis (100, 400 relay), Bella Prince (400 relay, 1600 relay), Emma Pilon (400 relay, 1600 relay) and Rylan Terwilliger (400, pole vault).
“It was a fun meet with many personal bests. We appreciate Coach Fernan and the Elk Catholic team coming up on Monday so we could have the meet and our Senior Night. We were able to honor our seniors: Grace Close, Eliana Curcio, Lillian Erickson and Bella Prince and thank them for their dedication to our team,” Bradford girls coach Larry Stillman said. “Our hurdlers, Alyssa Aliya, and Olivia Funk were on top of their game tonight — all setting personal bests — with Alyssa moving into fourth place overall in the 100 hurdles and Aliya into eighth place all time in the 300 hurdles.
“Elianna Curcio had her best jump in two years in the triple jump, Maranda Davis her best 100 and our 400 and 1600 (relays) really were on tonight.”
