Barbara Sankner
Barbara Sankner, 88, of Nelson Avenue Apartments, formerly of Hedgehog Lane, passed away Friday (April 25, 2025) at Bradford Ecumenical Home.
Born Aug. 18,1936, in Lewis Run, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Anna (Onuffer) Sankner. She attended Lewis Run schools and graduated from Bradford High School in 1954.
Barb was employed after high school at Columbia Gas Co. and retired after many years of service. She was the office manager in Bradford and Binghamton, N.Y.
She was a former member of Our Member of Perpetual Help Church in Lewis Run and a current member of St. Bernard Church.
Barb was an avid golfer and former member of Pennhills Country Club, where she won the Women’s Club Championship, and a member of Pine Acres, where she also was the Women’s Club Champion. She was an avid bowler. Surviving are two nieces, Celia (Bob) Boyle of Ashville, N.C., and Paula Alter of Franklin, N.C.; four nephews, Stephen (Beth) Thiele of Bradford, Dave (MaryAnn) Thiele of Rio Rancho, N.M., Michael Sanker of Middletown, Conn., and Tom Johnson of Franklin, N.C.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, John, James, Joseph, Steve and George Sankner; and four sisters, Ann Johnson, Mary Kraus, Margaret Sanker and Betty Thiele.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday (May 2, 2025) at St. Bernard Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will immediately follow with the Rev. John Jacquel, pastor of St. Bernard Church, as celebrant. Committal services and burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to CARE for Children, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
