PSU specialist announces he’s entering the transfer portal
(TNS) — Penn State’s depth on special teams took a bit of a hit Thursday.
Redshirt junior kicker Chase Meyer announced his intention to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.
“Forever grateful to Coach Franklin and the staff for the opportunities I have had here at Penn state. Happy Valley will always be special to me and a second home,” he wrote in a social media post.
Meyer, a Los Angeles native, transferred to Penn State last offseason after one season at Penn and another at Tulsa. He did not appear in a game for Penn State but was on the Lou Groza Award preseason watch list in 2024.
Sander Sahaydak (now off the Penn State roster) won the starting kicking job to begin the season but lost it after early season struggles, giving way to 2025 returnee Ryan Barker.
Barker is in line to start again this season with just freshman Matthew Parker listed behind him on the roster. Punter Gabriel Nwosu has handled kickoff duties the past two seasons and had been place kicking in spring practices.
In his career, Meyer went 17-for-20 on field goals and 30-for-32 on extra points with a long of 47 yards.
Six Penn State players have now entered the spring portal window: OL JB Nelson, LB Ta’Mere Robinson (committed to USC), CB Jon Mitchell (Georgia Tech), LB Beckham Dee, DL Joseph Mupoyi and Meyer.
