Bradford Branch AAUW
Co-Presidents Dr. Julia Morgan and Isabelle Champlin opened the general meeting of the Bradford Branch of American Association of University Women at the Church of the Nazarene. Morgan thanked the hospitality committee of Jenelle Johnson, Faye Parisella and Debbie Price. The minutes of the September meeting were reviewed and approved. Members appreciated receiving the reports of AAUW chairpersons in advance of the meeting via email. Kay Hurley, chairperson of the legislature committee, and Jenelle Johnson encouraged members to utilize the AAUW’s national and Pennsylvania websites to research candidates and their stands on relevant issues before election day.
Under new business, a member suggested that when the schedule is set for next year that the branch consider holding some of our general meetings during the week. Morgan reported that the Bradford Branch was informed that we received a National One-Star rating. She suggested that we form a committee to learn more about the National Five-Star Program.
After the business meeting, time was devoted for members to work in small groups on four different service projects. One group wove baskets to support the Empty Bowls and Baskets fundraiser that will be held at Pitt-Bradford in the spring, while a second group painted rocks with the messages encouraging people to vote. The rocks will be placed along local walking trails. A third group designed greetings cards that will be sent to members and friends throughout the year. The fourth group assembled a large collection of essential hygiene and personal items that were purchased and donated by AAUW members. Members then packed the items into multiple purses and dopp kits that will be delivered to the Bradford YWCA for individuals who use the Y’s services.
The mission of AAUW is to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education and advocacy.
Bradford Branch of AAUW was founded on April 16, 1921.
