RIDGWAY — North Central Pennsylvania – Workforce Solutions for North Central PA, the Workforce Development Board serving Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, and Potter counties, announced that it has been awarded a grant from the Department of Community and Economic Development through the Manufacturing Training to Careers Grant program.

This funding will support the implementation of an internship program designed specifically for manufacturing companies in the region.

With a population of approximately 216,304 residents (source: Center for Workforce Information Analysis), North Central PA faces significant challenges in workforce development. Employers are struggling to find skilled workers to fill both entry-level and specialized positions. Contributing factors include an aging workforce and a trend of youth leaving the area for better opportunities, which has resulted in a population decline.

This internship program aims to bridge the skills gap by providing local residents with valuable career pathways in the manufacturing industry. It will not only help manufacturing companies address their workforce challenges but also serve as a recruitment and retention strategy, encouraging young people to remain in or return to the region after completing their education.

The Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Grant program complements existing initiatives such as WEDNet and Next Generation Industry Partnerships. It is designed to assist companies in identifying and training a skilled workforce for current and future job openings. The program will engage youth and individuals facing barriers to employment, raising awareness about the career opportunities available in manufacturing and enhancing the capacity of local manufacturers.
