WARREN — The USDA Forest Service announced a free Outdoor Safety Day in honor of National Public Lands Day in the Allegheny National Forest.
The event will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Kinzua Beach, located along State Route 59 across from the Kinzua Wolf Run Marina.
The event will be hosted by Penn Soil Resource Conservation and Development Council (Penn Soil RC&D) in partnership with the Allegheny National Forest. Representatives from other resource management organizations will be present to provide information and demonstrations on how to recreate safely and responsibly, including:
Hiking, camping and tick safety presented by Chapman State Park.
National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation’s largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands with a common goal — to steward America’s natural resources for future generations to enjoy.
“Outdoor recreation creates meaningful connections between visitors and the forest. We hope these safety tips will help the public to minimize hazards and make their trip safer when recreating outdoors. Big thanks to Penn Soil RC&D for organizing this wonderful event and bringing our communities together,” said Allegheny National Forest Recreation Program Manager Jamie Feikls.
This event will occur rain or shine, but if severe weather is forecast, the event will be rescheduled for Oct. 5. For more information or to find other NPLD events, visit the National Environmental Education Foundation’s website.
