SMETHPORT — Smethport’s annual Tractor Parade will roll down Main Street again this year to kick off Agriculture Day and the McKean County Fair. The parade will be held Saturday. Registration will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Isadore Farm on Ivy Road. From there, the tractors will proceed down Main Street to the fairgrounds.
Participants must be at least 16 years old to drive a tractor. No passengers are permitted unless the tractor in question has a “buddy seat” installed.
“All tractors are welcome, big or small,” said Marklyn Brown, one of the event’s organizers.
Since 2012, this Tractor Parade has been an annual event held to kick off the McKean County Fair. On average, the event sees about 50 to 60 participants each year.
“One day, we hope to make it to the 100 mark,” Brown said.
The public is encouraged to line the streets, cheer on the drivers and maybe even catch a piece of candy or two.
Immediately following the parade there will be a touch-a-tractor event and free hot dog roast for all who attend held in the new Grange Building on the fairgrounds.
“This event is a unique opportunity for our local farmers to gather together, enjoy each others’ company and show off their farming equipment to the whole community,” Brown said.
