The Bradford Area School District Board of Education passed the budget — with no tax increase — for the 2024-25 school year during its monthly meeting.
Taxes levied next year will be 1 percent on earned income and net profits, one percent on realty transfers and real estate tax will be levied at 22.12 mills.
Superintendent Katy Pude also presented a district safety report.
“In my board report, I indicated that summer school had started in the high school and it started today in the lower grades,” Pude said.
The district has received preliminary PSSA scores for last year, but are still waiting on the official results.
The school also had a federal ESSER audit that went very well, according to Pude.
“Thanks to our team and Lisa Esch, or federal programs director, who was very thorough and organized with the funding that we received during the pandemic,” Pude said.
The board also recognized the class of 1969 and Paul Abbey for their donation of four maple trees to the school.
“We had some old trees cut down that were in very poor condition,” Pude said.
The new trees were planted by members of the class, horticulture students from the school and members of the custodial staff.
“They will be beautiful for years to come and are much appreciated,” Pude said.
The board also approved the hiring of Mikayla Schaumleffel as a general music teacher for School Street Elementary and Floyd C. Fretz Middle School; Carrie Grice as a special education teacher for School Street and Marty Cummins as dean of students at the high school. Also hired was Adam Zeller as a districtwide school psychologist.
Aileen McGinnis was approved as a mentor teacher, Sara Mason was approved as a lead teacher. Kate Pfeil will be the freshman class advisor. Bernie Kuhn will be the senior class advisor and Jennie Jones will be the marching band director for the new school year.
The following coaches were also approved by the board this month: Emily Treat as assistant volleyball coach; Alexis Hardy and Danielle Gressley as volunteer volleyball coaches; Matt Colwell as the volunteer girls’ golf coach; Frank McAndrew as a volunteer Fretz football coach; Matthew Calkins as a volunteer Fretz football coach; Jason Blatchley as the head varsity girls’ basketball coach; and Mike Haviland and Bryce Williams as volunteer football coaches.
