ELDRED — The Eldred World War II Museum will acknowledge the 80th anniversary of D-Day with a free, public presentation at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Kyle Dunn, recently named the museum’s curator, along with Curator Emeritus Steve Appleby and volunteer Aiden Mickolajczyk, will present “D-Day 80 Year Retrospective” in the museum’s Mitchell Paige Hall.
The title refers to the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord, commonly known as D-Day. Dunn will discuss the events of D-Day with a slideshow presentation, Appleby will share some personal stories of WWII veterans who experienced D-Day, and Mickolajczyk will end the program with Eisenhower’s speech to the troops.
Dunn grew up in nearby Portville, N.Y. Armed with an intense passion for WWII history, and aviation history, Kyle volunteered at the museum for many years. He began his professional career as curator of the Eldred WWII Museum on April 1. Appleby retired from the museum in April after 17 years as curator and education specialist. Mickolajczyk is a volunteer and re-enactor at the museum.
