Owls’ baseball falls in extras again; St. Marys wins Elk County Tournament

BROCKWAY — For the second time in as many games, an unforced error in extra innings sank the Bradford baseball team, this time losing to Brockway 5-4 in eight innings.

After losing to Kane with an eighth inning error on Tuesday, the Owls looked to bounce back on Thursday. While they fell behind early, Bradford mustered up some momentum that looked promising. Down 4-1 in the fifth, AJ Lama and Adam Ward got on base with consecutive singles before a Rover error advanced the duo to second and third. Jack Nannen then stepped up and hit a RBI single that put Bradford within one. In the seventh, with their backs against a wall, Nannen would come up clutch again, drilling another RBI single to force extra innings.

However, in the top of the eighth, Bradford recorded three outs in as many batters, leaving the fate of the game up to their defense. A single and a walk put two Rovers on base and as one stole second, the Owls’ suffered a catastrophic error, allowing Brockway to send in a game-winning run.

Nannen ended 3-for-4 with three runs batted in while AJ Lama scored twice on a 1-for-2 day at the plate.

The Owls return to action on Friday, when they host Oswayo Valley.
