Alexis Burns was one of just more than 30 Insurance Agents & Brokers (IA&B) members from throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware who traveled to Washington, D.C., recently to attend the annual Big “I” Legislative Conference.
The event brings together more than 1,000 independent agents from across the country to talk with lawmakers about issues important to them and their clients.
Pennsylvania IA&B members met with nine federal lawmakers from Pennsylvania and their staff, including Reps. Chrissy Houlahan, Susan Wild, Dan Meuser, Scott Perry, Lloyd Smucker, John Joyce, Glenn Thompson, and Chris DeLuzio, as well as Sen. Bob Casey.
Burns sat in on multiple conferences and meetings to hear from legislative leaders and their plans for the insurance industry in Pennsylvania. She said the takeaways from the meeting included opposing tax increases on Main Street America, addressing the insurance market crisis by cracking down on lawsuit abuse and encouraging risk mitigation, protecting the Federal Crop Insurance Program (FCIP) and extending and reforming the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Burns & Burns is a fourth-generation independent insurance agency with nine branches across Northwestern Pennsylvania, including Clarion, Bradford, Clearfield, Erie, Meadville, Mercer, New Wilmington, Tionesta and Warren. The agency has been in business since 1939, and celebrates its 85th anniversary in 2024.
